The Barnstable Democratic Town Committee will hold a forum: “Immigrants on the Cape and Islands: their journeys, contributions and our shared future,” to be held on June 7th, 2017 at 7 P.M. at the Barnstable Senior Center, 825 Falmouth Road. The forum is free and open to the public regardless of political party affiliation or lack thereof.
In announcing the forum, Sean Caughey, Chairperson of the Town Committee, said,
“Since the Pilgrims landed in Provincetown Harbor in November, 1620, Cape Cod has been a haven for immigrants. The purpose of this forum is to provide information on current day immigrants, their place in the life of our community and the successes, challenges and injustices of their journeys.”
The panel moderator is Susan Rohrbach from Centerville.
The panelists are Munir Ahmed, M.D. and Fozia Ahmed, Pakistani natives, Carlos Barbosa, a Brazilian native, Victor Corea, a Colombian native, Elva Spenser, a Jamaican native, Collin Mickle, Esq., Coordinator of the Immigrant Resource Center of the Community Action Committee of the Cape and Islands and Liza Ryan, Organizing Director of the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refuge Advocacy Coalition.
A question and answer period will follow the panelists’ presentations.
